What is M2TS?
M2TS is a file format which is sometimes used to encode digital video files.
The M2TS format is used for compressing video data onto Blu-ray discs.
They can essentially be distributed and opened as individual video files
since M2TS files contain an MPEG-2 video codec. After the decoder receives
the TS it can decode only the streams for the program it's playing, and
ignore streams for other programs. It is based on the MPEG-2 transport
stream container. Compared to Blu-ray Disc format, AVCHD can use various
storage media, such as DVD media, memory cards or hard disk drives. This
is a file extension that is used by certain models of a Sony Camcorder
for their video and audio files. Normally these files also have a separate
.modd file which contains the timestamp. In general, the Sony Camcorder
will come with software which will be able to convert these files to another
file type. Currently, M2TS files can be played using the Picture Motion
Browser, which is an application video player provided with Sony AVCHD
camcorders. On August 2012, VLC media player 2.0.1 could convert .m2ts
files into MP4 as well. DVDFab (at least premium) can also convert .m2ts
to various other formats, including .mkv or .mp4. This is generally used
for more traditional broadcasting like DVB or over the air HDTV. Currently,
M2TS files can be played using the Picture Motion Browser, which is an
application video player provided with Sony AVCHD camcorders. The BDAV
container is also used in the BDAV (Blu-ray Disc Audio/Visual) disc format,
the consumer-oriented alternative to the BDMV discs. There are two major
variants of MPEG-2 TS. If multiple programs are sets of video and other
Streams intended to play together, are muxed into the TS it's called an
MPTS, or Multiple Program Transport Stream.
 What is GIF?
Graphics Interchange Format. GIFs are image files that are compressed to
reduce transfer time. The proper pronounciation of the acronym is a soft
"g" sound: like JIF. It can also use multiple images for animated
effects (animated GIFs), but has no sound. GIF images can also be animated
and saved as "animated GIFs," which are often used to display
basic animations on websites. They may also include transparent pixels,
which allow them to blend with different color backgrounds. However, pixels
in a GIF image must be either fully transparent or fully opaque, so the
transparency cannot be faded like a .PNG image. CompuServe introduced the
GIF format in 1987 to provide a color image format for their file downloading
areas, replacing their earlier run-length encoding (RLE) format, which
was black and white only. GIF became popular because it used LZW data compression,
which was more efficient than the run-length encoding that formats such
as PCX and MacPaint used, and fairly large images could therefore be downloaded
in a reasonably short time, even with very slow modems. Since each image
block requires its own local color table, a GIF file having lots of image
blocks can be very large, limiting the usefulness of full-color GIFs. Additionally,
not all GIF rendering programs handle tiled or layered images correctly.
Many rendering programs interpret tiles or layers as animation frames and
display them in sequence as an endless animation with most web browsers
automatically displaying the frames with a delay time of 0.1 seconds or
more. A GIF image can contain 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 or 256 colors which
are stored in a color palette or color lookup table within the image file.
Each color in the GIF color table is described in RGB values, with each
value having a range of 0 to 255. CMYK colors are not possible in GIF.
Although the GIF format has access to over 16.8 million colors, only a
maximum of 256 can be referenced within a single GIF image. While this
limited palette keeps down file size and is perfectly acceptable for on-screen
viewing, it leads to posterized images when they are printed. Most preflighting
tools like PitStop can generate a warning when they encounter images with
a fixed color palette.
